This very stylish
studio conversion from an old stone building is on the edge of the
village of Agaliani. All the charm
and warmth of the old building has been kept with modern comfort,
air conditioning and double fronted glass across the front wall
to allow lovely views of the mountains around; this opens out onto
a walled terrace with hammock, coconut tree and outside dining area.
The locals call it 'The Villa' as appreciation of its new found
glory. The main double bedroom lies on a mezzanine level reached
via a hand made spiral staircase. The second bedroom has two bunk
beds. The bathroom has a bath and washing machine. Mountain bikes
are available for hire and walks and bike rides literally start
at the front door in all directions. The road does not go past this
point so no cars will pass by as you sit on your terrace contemplating
life. It becomes a track leading off to olive groves in one direction
and the sea in the other. It is ideal for those seeking tranquillity
and nature.
The studio is
air-conditioned in summer - though we have rarely felt the need
to use it. In winter the stove fire or the wall heater are more
than ample to heat the whole studio. The Greeks in the local village
tend to sleep between 2 – 5 p.m. (they call it the 'Mesi Meri')
and we would ask for the utmost respect between these hours in terms
of noise levels. In return they will almost certainly be buying
your drinks at the local cafe if you go up (and not the other way
around).
